Tourtoirac
Tourtoirac
A location in a peaceful and preserved environment, close to essential amenities
The house is set in a green haven, with no nuisance, on the edge of the Auvézère river (a sub-affluent of the Dordogne), with very beautiful views over nature.
  • Daily shopping is done in the village, a few minutes’ walk away, or within about 10km around the house, notably in Hautefort, Saint-Martial-d’Albarède or Excideuil (for supermarkets in particular). For more specialised shopping or a greater variety of products, Périgueux, 30 minutes by car, or even Brive-la-Gaillarde, 45 minutes away, offer a much more complete commercial and cultural offer.
  • The village has a nursery and primary school. The middle school and high school are in Excideuil, 10 minutes by car, with a school bus service that facilitates journeys.
  • The Thenon station, located about 12km south-west of Tourtoirac, is the closest and the most used to access the railway network. Other options, such as Thiviers, Périgueux or Terrasson-Lavilledieu, offer more connections depending on needs.
  • The house benefits from easy access to the road network, with small local roads allowing quick access to the D5 which crosses the village and the D67 towards Thenon and Hautefort. The D6089, linking Brive-la-Gaillarde to Périgueux, is accessible in about fifteen minutes, also facilitating access to the A89 motorway towards Bordeaux, Brive and Clermont-Ferrand.
Nestled in the hollow of the Auvézère valley, Tourtoirac appeals by its authentic character and the softness of its living environment. Its picturesque village, dominated by the former abbey and surrounded by wooded and hilly landscapes, reflects all the charm of the Périgord. A few steps away, the famous Tourtoirac cave offers a spectacular underground journey, while the neighbouring villages, rich in heritage and traditions, complete this preserved environment where history and nature intertwine harmoniously.
The Hautefort castle
The Hautefort castle
Within a department of great diversity, conducive to numerous discoveries
The Dordogne department appeals as much for its preserved landscapes as for its multiple (pre)historic, cultural and gastronomic facets.
The territory, which offers a multitude of picturesque hilltop villages or remarkable natural sites, will be the starting point for a great variety of excursions, including:
  • The “4 Périgord”: the "noir", the land of Prehistory and gastronomy; the "vert", that of forests and meadows; the "blanc", for its limestone plateaus and wide valleys; and the "pourpre", the land of vineyards and bastides.
  • Many villages classified among the most beautiful villages of France (Saint-Jean-de-Côle, Belvès, Domme, Limeuil, Beynac-et-Cazenac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, La Roque-Gageac, Monpazier, Biron…).
  • Bergerac and its magnificent Renaissance city centre.
  • Sarlat-la-Canéda, a masterpiece of art and history (1 hour by car from the house); Brantôme, the Venice of the Périgord; and many other character towns.
  • The splendid Dordogne and Vézère valleys, and their water activities.
  • The numerous castles (including the Hautefort castle, 10 minutes from the house), abbeys and first-rate historical sites.
  • The emblematic caves and chasms (Lascaux (40 minutes away), Padirac, Lacave…).
  • The pleasant colourful and fragrant markets which invite to discover the Périgord gastronomy.
  • The richness of craft traditions and local know-how, notably pottery, cutlery, leatherwork or even foie gras production, which can be discovered through the workshops, shops and craft fairs of the Périgord.
Between exceptional heritage, generous nature and living traditions, the Dordogne offers a unique art of living where each outing becomes a memorable experience, combining discovery, wonder and conviviality.

The Périgord, a land of delicacies
Another asset: a remarkable gastronomy sublimated by top-quality products
Renowned worldwide, the gastronomy of the Dordogne is based on a local cuisine which sublimates the flavour of its products.
Whether traditional, passed down from generation to generation and enjoyed at a farmhouse table, or reinterpreted by a starred chef, the gastronomic specialities of the Périgord are always generous, tasty and delightful, with in particular:
  • The sumptuous cep, a natural treasure; the festive and delicate foie gras (duck or goose); the tasty walnut (and its excellent oils); the very tasty strawberry; and for exceptional moments, the Périgord truffle, a culinary jewel of the region, or caviar, the black gold of the Isle valley and the banks of the Vézère…
  • ... Not forgetting the charcuterie from farms and artisan producers (black pudding, andouillette, sausages, pâtés…).
  • The cheeses of the Périgord, such as cabécou or Rocamadour, which accompany the local wines perfectly and extend meals convivially.
  • Remarkable wines, including notably the Bergerac vineyard which offers dry whites, mellow or sweet wines, reds and rosés.
Alongside this gastronomic wealth, the Dordogne also invites to fully enjoy nature. Hikes, canoe trips on the Dordogne or the Vézère, and visits to remarkable gardens offer moments of relaxation in the heart of varied landscapes, encouraging the discovery of local producers and their products.
Beyond the plate, it is a whole art of living that is expressed through the weekly markets, full of colours and scents, but also during the foie gras fairs, truffle festivals and culinary festivals that punctuate the year. The Périgord is thus a true paradise for gastronomy lovers, where each meal becomes a celebration of the land and local know-how.
